What is the scheme?
Through a notification dated 13 March 2024, Himachal Pradesh’s Department of Social Justice and Empowerment revised the earlier “Indira Gandhi Mahila Samman Nidhi Yojana-2023” into the Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh-Samman Nidhi Yojana. It aims to honour women’s contribution to the state’s development and culture and to make them financially self-reliant. It applies across Himachal Pradesh and is still listed on the department’s website.
Eligibility
- The woman must be a permanent resident of Himachal Pradesh.
- Age 18 to 59 years (until she completes 59).
- No family member should be in government service or receive a government pension, serve or have served in the armed forces, hold an honorarium post, receive a social security pension, be GST-registered or pay income tax (full list in the FAQ).
- Buddhist nuns (Chomo) living permanently in monasteries are also eligible.

What happens after you apply?
The Tehsil Welfare Officer records each form in a register by date of receipt, checks it and sends eligible cases with a recommendation to the Deputy Commissioner for sanction. The amount is then paid to the bank or post office account you gave.
How to check status
A panchayat- or urban-body-wise list of approved beneficiaries is sent through the Child Development Project Officer to every Anganwadi worker. Ask your Anganwadi worker, or visit the Tehsil Welfare Officer’s office with your register number. If a complaint shows a beneficiary is ineligible, payment can be stopped after inquiry, and the beneficiary is informed by letter within a week.
How to Apply
- Collect Form-1 free of cost from the Tehsil or District Welfare Officer's office, or download it from esomsa.hp.gov.in.
- Fill in the form and paste your photograph.
- Attach copies of your age proof, Himachali bonafide certificate, bank or post office passbook, Aadhaar and Pariwar Register (rural) or ration card (urban).
- Submit the form at your Tehsil Welfare Officer's office and note the register number.
- Incomplete or ineligible forms are returned with remarks within 15 days; if that happens, fix the gap and resubmit.
