Eligibility
- A retired or released commissioned officer of the Indian Army of the rank of Colonel, Lt Colonel, Major or Captain, or the equivalent rank in the Indian Navy or Air Force.
- Knowledge of Himachal’s customs, dialects and local conditions is desirable.
- Below 57 years of age on 1 January 2026.
Selection process
- If eligible candidates are six times the posts or fewer, all are called straight to the personality test.
- If they are fewer than 20 times the posts, only Paper-II (a 120-mark descriptive SAT) and the personality test are held.
- Otherwise there is a 100-mark objective Paper-I (HP GK 30, national GK 30, Hindi 20, English 20), Paper-II, and a 30-mark personality test in Shimla. A quarter mark is cut for each wrong answer.
Documents
To claim ex-servicemen reservation you need your discharge certificate or service book, full details of your PPO number and rank, and an NOC showing your date of retirement from the Defence Services. ST candidates also need a caste certificate in the HP government format and a Bonafide Himachali certificate.
