Eligibility and age
- A recognised medical qualification listed in the schedules of the IMC Act, 1956, plus a completed compulsory rotating internship.
- A PG degree or diploma and knowledge of Himachal’s customs and dialects are desirable.
- Age 18 to 45 years as on 1 January 2026, based on the date of birth in the matriculation certificate.
Selection process
- Paper-I: a one-hour, 100-mark objective test – HP general knowledge 30, national and international affairs 30, Hindi 20, English 20. A quarter mark is cut for each wrong answer; mark option ‘E’ to skip a question, because a blank answer is also penalised.
- Paper-II: a three-hour, 120-mark descriptive SAT. General candidates need 45% and reserved candidates 40%.
- Personality test: 30 marks, held only in Shimla.
If fewer than 20 eligible candidates apply per post, only Paper-II and the personality test are held.
