What is SSC CHSL 2026?
The Staff Selection Commission holds the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination every year to fill Lower Division Clerk (LDC) / Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA) and Data Entry Operator (DEO) posts in central government ministries and offices. This year’s notice lists about 2536 tentative vacancies. Post-wise and category-wise numbers will be published later in the Tentative Vacancy section of the SSC website.
Eligibility in plain words
- For LDC/JSA and most DEO posts, a 12th pass from a recognised board is enough.
- For DEO posts in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, SSC and the Ministry of Culture, you need 12th in the Science stream with Maths.
- You must hold the qualification by 07-10-2026.
Exam pattern
Tier-I (60 minutes, 15-minute sectional timer per subject): English Language, General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness – 25 questions and 50 marks each, so 100 questions / 200 marks in total. Each wrong answer costs 0.50 marks.
Tier-II is held on one day in two sessions:
- Session-I: Mathematical Abilities + Reasoning (60 questions), English + General Awareness (60 questions) and a Computer Knowledge Test (15 questions).
- Session-II: a Skill Test for DEO posts and a Typing Test for LDC/JSA.
Points to remember
- Your date of birth is taken from your Class 10 certificate and cannot be changed later.
- If the fee does not reach SSC, the form stays “Incomplete” and is rejected, so check the Payment Status link.
- Corrections in the correction window cost ₹200 the first time and ₹500 the second time.
- The website gets crowded near the deadline, so apply early.

How to Apply
- Open ssc.gov.in and complete One-Time Registration (OTR). An OTR made on the old ssc.nic.in site no longer works.
- Log in with your OTR number and password and open the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination, 2026 form.
- Fill in your post preferences, exam centres and other details carefully.
- Pay the ₹100 fee by BHIM UPI, net banking or debit card before 11 PM on 8 October 2026 (unless exempt).
- Submit the form and keep a printout or PDF copy.
